Jay D'Ambrosio teaches an Ancient Civilizations course in a western Pennsylvania middle school. He has created several pieces of historical fiction in a Choose Your Own Adventure format. These Choose Your Own Adventure stories are tales that are based on actual people, places, and events of the ancient past. These stories are designed to be read by the teacher to the entire classroom. They allow students to make choices and use their imaginations in an interactive way in order to experience life in ancient times.

The Baghdad Museum Project

Um projeto multidisciplinar e internacional, com ampla participação de todos os setores competentes, que visa criar um catálogo online de todos os artefatos do Museu Nacional do Iraque - Museu de Bagdá - que foram saqueados e/ou destruídos no começo de abril de 2003 como conseqüência da invasão anglo-americana do Iraque.

A multi-sector project and a multidisciplinary problem-solving effort, that has so far brought forth the active participation of architects, planners, archaeologists, designers, educators, programmers, researchers, students, community leaders, artists, curators, collectors, dealers, law enforcement agents, activists, religious leaders, writers, reporters, producers, docents, sponsors and benefactors. The Baghdad Museum Project proposes: establish a comprehensive online catalog of all cultural artifacts in the Baghdad Museum to help locate them; create a virtual Baghdad Museum, a content-rich website - free to the general public - based on the Baghdad Museum collection; build a 3D collaborative workspace within the virtual Baghdad Museum, to allow international teams to work together on renovation designs; establish a resource center for community cultural development within the virtual Baghdad Museum, offering experiences, ideas and success stories that show how people can contribute creatively to their own culture, and thereby strengthen their historical memory.

The British Museum - World Cultures: Near East

The collections represent the civilizations of the ancient Near East and its adjacent areas. These include Mesopotamia, Iran, the Arabian Peninsula, Anatolia, the Caucasus, parts of Central Asia, Syria, Palestine and Phoenician settlements in the western Mediterranean from the prehistoric period until the coming of Islam in the 7th century AD. The British Museum's collection is one of the most comprehensive in the world.

The Egyptian Museum

O atual Museu Egípcio foi construído em 1900 e expõe mais de 120 mil objetos. Entre eles, as múmias de vários faraós importantes, como Tuthmosis III, Seti I, Ramsés II, Merneptah; mais de 3500 artefatos da tumba de Tutankhamon, entre eles a máscara de ouro do faraó; artefatos do período de Amarna, pertencentes ao faraó Amenófis IV e sua família...

The Egyptian government established the 'Service des Antiques de l'Egypte' in 1835 mainly to halt the plundering of archaeological sites and to arrange the exhibition of the collected artifacts owned by the government. The present museum was built in 1900, and exhibits over 120 000 objects. Some of the important groups of these objects are:the mummies of some Pharaohs, how Ahmose I, Amenhotep I, Tuthmosis I, Tuthmosis II, Tuthmosis III,  Seti I, Ramses II, Ramses III; artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamon, consisting of more than 3500 pieces;artifacts from the Amarna Period made for Akhenaten and members of his family and some high officials.

 

The Israel Museum - Jerusalem

The Israel Museum was founded in 1965 and has, in a remarkably short period of time, become the encylopedic museum of art and archeology for these part of the world.

 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Ancient Near Eastern Art

The collection of more than seven thousand works of art ranges in date from 8000 B.C. (the Neolithic period) to the Arab conquest and rise of Islam beginning in A.D. 651. The works come from ancient Mesopotamia, Iran, Syria, Anatolia, and other lands in the region that extends from the Black and Caspian Seas in the north to the southwestern Arabian peninsula, and from western Turkey on the Mediterranean Sea to the Indus River Valley in modern-day Pakistan and India.

 

The Semitic Museum at Harvard University

O Museu Semítico da Universidade de Harvard, USA, foi fundado em 1889. Compreende o Departamento de Línguas e Civilizações do Oriente Médio e as coleções de artefatos  arqueológicos - mais de 40 mil - do Oriente Médio da Universidade de Harvard. Muitos desses artefatos são provenientes das escavações patrocinadas pelo Museu em Israel, Jordânia, Iraque, Egito, Chipre e Tunísia.

The Semitic Museum was founded in 1889. The Semitic Museum is the home to the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and to the University's collections of Near Eastern archaeological artifacts. These artifacts comprise over 40,000 items, including pottery, cylinder seals, sculpture, coins and cuneiform tablets. Many are from museum-sponsored excavations in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Cyprus, and Tunisia. The Museum is dedicated to the use of these collections for the teaching, research, and publication of Near Eastern archaeology, history, and culture.

Vatican Museums

Os fantásticos Museus do Vaticano podem, desde final de junho de 2003, ser visitados online. Além de célebres galerias e da Capela Sistina, o estudioso do Antigo Oriente Médio pode visitar o Museu Egípcio, que, além de monumentos e artefatos egípcios, possui muitos objetos da antiga Mesopotâmia e da Síria-Palestina. The Vatican put its enormous art collection on the Web. The high-tech site allows visitors to take a virtual tour of some of the dozen museums and galleries that make up the Vatican collection. The Gregorian Egyptian Museum houses monuments and artefacts of ancient Egypt, and finds from ancient Mesopotamia and from Syria-Palestine. The Sistine Chapel is now online. Descriptions of the works accompany the images, translated into Italian, French, English, Spanish and German.
