In the days following the conquest of Baghdad by the USA
military forces in April 2003, the Iraq Museum was looted. Reports on the damage
vary - the number of lost or stolen objects varies between 50,000 to 200,000. The losses not only to the world of a archaeology but to mankind in general are tremendous. This site contains images of objects from the Iraq Museum, sorted by categories, that are presently at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. Some of them are photos of objects from the Institute's own excavations, others were scanned from books with permission of the publishers. In addition, several institutions and individuals generously contributed pictures from their own holdings. It is hoped that it will be of use as a reference tool in the recovery of artifacts should they appear on the antiquities
market.

Radiocarbon dating is the technique upon which chronologies of the late
Pleistocene and Holocene have been built. This resource is designed to
provide online information concerning the radiocarbon dating method. The
carbon-14 dating technique, developed by Nobel Laureat Willard Frank Libby
in 1946, involves measuring the amount of residual radioactive carbon (carbon-14)
in a given sample. Carbon-14 has a half-life of 5,73040 years, which means
that it takes 5,730 years for half of the radioisotope to disintegrate.
Because carbon-14 decays at this constant rate, an estimate of the age of
the sample can be made by measuring the amount of its residual radiocarbon.

Palestina. A página traz, entre outras coisas, incríveis fotos do site
arqueológico. A Expedição Meguiddo, da Universidade de Tel Aviv, tem
como diretores Israel Finkelstein, David Ussishkin e Baruch Halpern.
Megiddo's stormy history covers over six millennia, from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period in the seventh millennium B.C.E. to the Persian period in the mid-first millennium B.C.E. Megiddo is the only site in the Levant mentioned in all great records of the Ancient Near East: the Old and New Testaments on the one hand, and Egyptian, Assyrian and Hittite sources on the other. Megiddo is the only site in the Land of the Bible with remains of thirty cities built one on top of the other. Megiddo has been excavated for over a century, starting on April 1, 1903, and has become the cradle of the archaeology of Israel, the source of and answer to almost every problem related to the Bronze and Iron Ages in the Holy
Land. The Megiddo Expedition operates under the auspices of Tel Aviv University.
